David Goggins is a retired Navy SEAL, former Guinness World Record holder for completing 4,030 pull-ups in 17 hours, and has completed more than 70 ultra-distance races.
He is a machine and so inspiring.
He is TOUGH and his story is so TOUGH.
In this excerpt taken from Lewis Howes brilliant School of Greatness podcast David tells how the 2 mins & 13 sec movie clip from the iconic 'Rocky' movie (Round 14 fight scene) changed his life.
If you really want to make a change and/or have obstacles in your life to overcome, take it from David who's faced it ALL :
His childhood was a nightmare - terrible physical and emotional abuse, poverty, prejudice, learning disabilities, a junior in high school with a third grade reading level, a stutter, obesity, a family murder, he ended up lying and cheating.
Through self discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, David transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a U.S. Armed Forces icon and one of the world’s top endurance athletes.
He NEVER heard the words “it’s gonna be okay” when he was growing up.
He knew he didn’t want to struggle through life like his mom, so he decided to make this incredibly difficult world “the ultimate training ground for the rest of my life”.
David discusses with Lewis :
"THE WHOLE KEY TO LIFE IS - YOU HAVE TO FACE YOURSELF."
“You’ve gotta start diving into those things that you’re afraid of."
"What gives you confidence is overcoming your fears. You don’t have to overcome them every day, just face them.”
On not talking soft to yourself. How through hard work you can outwork anybody. How self-esteem comes from hard work and overcoming your fears.
“Your confidence is getting built in the discomfort zone, not the comfort zone”.
“People want an easier answer, an easier way - THERE'S NOT ONE!”
